Alpensped brings 1,500 accommodation containers to Germany

On behalf of Kärcher Futuretech GmbH, Schwaikheim, Alpensped transports accommodation containers from Italy to Germany, in the Rems-Murr district. The accommodation, sanitation and kitchen containers will provide space for more than 2,000 refugees.

The Mannheim-based logistics company already transported 60 containers to Germany in a trial order at the beginning of 2016. Following a subsequent invitation to tender, in mid-March Alpensped was awarded the contract for the entire transport volume of around 1,500 containers.

“We were awarded the entire contract because we kept in touch with those responsible at Futuretech, both during the execution of the first trial project and during the ongoing tender,” says Massimo Faggin, Managing Director and Project Manager at Alpensped, confidently, explaining further: “The ‘Kärcher Futuretech-Alpensped’ team worked together on solutions to reduce transport costs and optimise the process.” For example, test loads with covered vehicles were carried out beforehand in Italy. To test this option, Alpensped sent a vehicle to the loading station and then additionally to the responsible persons at Kärcher Futuretech in Germany.

Most of the accommodation containers are transported folded on container chassis with twist-lock locking, and are not assembled until they reach Germany, by staff trained by Kärcher Futuretech.

Up to eight folded containers can be transported per vehicle. Transport costs can thus be reduced to about one third. “That’s immense,” says Klaus Flad, Executive Head of Order Management at Kärcher Futuretech. “We are already familiar with the solution-oriented collaboration with Alpensped from current orders with our parent company. With this project we again feel validated that we have chosen the right service provider.”

“With the support of Alpensped, we will be creating housing for many refugees in need by November,” says Susan Bernhard, Project Manager at Kärcher Futuretech, and explains further: “A total of over 300 journeys are planned to bring the containers and various accessories to Germany.”

Trust, goals and sustainability.

Salamander Industrie-Produkte GmbH is one of the leading European system providers of high energy saving systems for plastic windows and doors and has its headquarters in Türkheim/Unterallgäu. In addition to efficient system and application technology, the almost 100-year-old, traditional company promises first-class customer service, high-quality products and the delivery of profiles on the desired date. SIP has a sophisticated logistics concept within which Alpensped GmbH, among others, is integrated. The Mannheim-based logistics company, which specialises in southern and south-eastern Europe, has been ensuring the smooth transportation of high-quality window profiles from Türkheim or Papenburg to currently 5 European countries for 11 years. At present, several canvas trailers with interior heights of up to 3 metres (mega trailers) transport the long material of 6 to 7 metres in length to the various recipient countries every day. The medium-sized family business proves its flexibility on a daily basis. Close coordination between Salamander and Alpensped as well as direct contact between the recipients and Alpensped contribute to a high level of process optimisation.

Shipping Manager Birgitt Menhofer lists “Alpensped’s linguistic skills, uncomplicated processes and punctual delivery, as well as many years of trust” as the most important factors in the long-standing collaboration. This is why the manufacturer entrusted its transport service provider with more than 650 partial and full loads in 2015.

“In addition to operational performance and price, soft factors also play a major role in the choice of transport partner,” explains Florian Sutter, Team Leader in Purchasing at SIP, naming the issue of sustainability, which Salamander and Alpensped have in common. While SIP is strongly committed to environmental protection and ensures that its products are 100% recyclable, Alpensped was also recognised by the state of Baden-Württemberg for its social and environmentally oriented behaviour.
