Infrastructure and road traffic
The Hungarian road network is quite long with its 203,600 km and asphalted for 77,087 km. The infrastructure is in the process of being expanded and the roads are to be completely renovated gradually.
On most motorways and expressways trucks over 3.5 tons have to pay tolls. The route-dependent fees are registered electronically (HU-GO system).
Due to the large number of resident foreign investors, the good infrastructure and the favorable taxes, Hungary will continue to exist as a meaningful business location and the transport and logistics sector will continue to grow.
Economy and foreign trade
Of the GDP of € 143.8 b. generated in 2019, € 110.4 b. are exports and € 107.0 b. are imports. Germany is by far Hungary’s most important trading partner. Most of the exports and imports of goods make up electronics, automotive parts, machines and mechanical products.
Hungary’s economy is growing steadily. One reason for this is the high level of investment by foreign, mainly German, companies. The automobile manufacturers (Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Suzuki) in particular have set up production facilities in Hungary.
Country and culture
Hungary is a central European landlocked country. Its landscape consists largely of lowlands. The Puszta landscape, a flat steppe, is typical but there are also some low mountain ranges, the famous Lake Balaton and many national parks.
Hungary’s culture goes back a long way and is a mixture of western and eastern cultural heritage. There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Numerous folk festivals are still traditionally celebrated with folk music and costumes. The majority of Hungarians live in the country and the largest minority is a large number of Roma.
