Infrastructure and road traffic
Poland has a road network of 420,000 km. The network of motorways and expressways is being expanded and completed outstandingly quick. Large investments have been and are being made in modernizing the infrastructure.
A route-dependent toll is imposed for all vehicles on the motorways and only for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes on the expressways. Payment is made manually at the toll stations or electronically for vehicles over 3.5 tons via viaTOLL with a transmitter.
Poland is a significant transit country between Western and Eastern Europe as well as between Northern and Southern Europe. On these routes there are connections from west to east via the A2 and A4 motorway and from north to south via the A1 motorway. Due to the consistent expansion of the road network, increasing traffic safety and the geographical location in the heart of Europe, Poland will continue to play a major role in freight forwarding and logistics.
Economy and foreign trade
In 2019, Poland’s GDP amounted to € 529 b., of which exports accounted for € 235.9 b. and imports accounted for € 234.0 b. Germany is by far Poland’s most important trading partner. The most common product groups exported and imported are machinery and mechanical products, motor vehicles and automotive parts as well as electronic products.
The Polish economy is strong and growing continuously. Among other things, high foreign investments contribute to this. In a global comparison, Poland is one of the larger economies.
Country and culture
Poland is located in Central Europe on the Baltic Sea and also has a few islands. The country is divided into 16 regions (voivodships). There are different landscapes: coast, forests, lowlands, mountains, many lakes and rivers, but also the nature reserve Bialowieza primeval forest with the tallest trees in Europe. Furthermore, there are some national parks.
Culture and the preservation of cultural assets are of great importance in Poland. The rich Polish culture has historically been shaped by many different civilizations. While the cities are globalized, the old customs and festivals have been retained in the countryside. The population consists almost exclusively of Poles.
