    Infrastructure and road traffic

The Montenegrin road network is 7,800 km long, of which 5,500 km are paved. A motorway does not yet exist. Three motorway connections and two expressways are currently being built or are still being planned. The use of the federal roads is not subject to charges; a fee is only due in the Sozina tunnel.

Due to its proximity to the EU market, the already introduced Euro and low tax rates, Montenegro is an attractive destination. The planned modernization of the traffic infrastructure will also contribute to an increase in transport volume in the long term.

    Economy and foreign trade

Montenegro achieved a GDP of € 4.9 b. in 2019. A clear trade deficit results from export of goods of € 0.5 b. and imports of goods of € 3.2 b.

By far the largest trade partner of Montenegro is Serbia. The main exports include non-ferrous metals, electric current and metallurgical ores. Mainly mineral oil and products as well as road vehicles are imported.

    Country and culture

Montenegro is located in southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula on the Adriatic Sea. Its landscape consists largely of mountains and forests. The Tara Gorge, named after the river, is the deepest gorge in Europe and one of the deepest in the world. Some national parks have been created to protect biodiversity and forests.

For historical reasons, Montenegro is a multi-ethnic state and almost half consists of Montenegrins, followed by the ethnic group of Serbs, Bosniaks, Albanians and Croats. Therefore there are also these five official languages. The rich culture of Montenegro is as multicultural as the population. The country’s cultural centre is located in Podgorica.
